Cigars and Politics

Sometimes you just want your elected officials to be cigar smokers. Perhaps not from the former Tammany Hall types whose graft and greed in NY cost residents great sums of cash but, rather, from the Churchills of the world and now equally from California governors. There was something incredibly sincere in old Winston’s bulldog face chomped down on a cigar the size of, well a Churchill, when he calmed England’s fears and assured that the Blitz and nightly bombings would be endured.

He just looked like a tough guy, not unlike The Terminator when he enjoyed cigars through his movies. From the aforementioned Terminator series where he, cigar in mouth extended a hand and suggested, “Come with me if you want to live”, to Predator and Commando where, for Hollywood’s sake he could continue to smoke because he needn’t ever bother to releoad as he shot his way through the jungle and hundreds of bad guys.

Schwarzenegger, early this week terminated California Legislatures’ promise to end smoking from all state parks and beaches. “There is something inherently uncomfortable about the idea of the state encroaching in such a broad manner on the people of California,” wrote Schwarzenegger in a short veto message. “This bill crosses an important threshold between state power … and local decision-making.”

Aside from this brief explanation, something that unavoidably comes to mind when the name Schwarzenegger comes up in conversation, is the fact that Schwarzenegger loves his cigars and this seemed the ideal time for him to stand up to the political correctness awash in the hallowed halls of California politics.

Well played Arnie, it is good to see someone take a stand for the cigar smoker’s rights. The idea of not being able to rest on a park bench in California and enjoy a fragrent cigar is criminal, unfortunately the same type of crime that would see you to be fined or arrested if you tried to match it with a nice glass of scotch in those same parks.Cigars-Now.com has been selling cigars online since 1998. After 12 years in business, demand for popular cigars brands (like Acid cigars) continues to grow. For more information, please visit our website: http://www.Cigars-Now.com.
